Each year up to one billion birds die after hitting glass in the U.S. as they try to navigate around houses, office buildings, and other obstacles.

Birds hit glass because it presents a double threat:

• Birds try to fly through vegetation, landscape, or sky reflected in glass because they look real
• Birds hit glass when they try to fly to habitat seen beyond it, or even to plants visible inside buildings
